Biography of:

Jim Wachtendonk

Jim has performed his Vietnam and Family Music, in large and small venues around the country, for over 30 years. He has been seen and heard on PBS, as well as HBO’s Welcome Home Concert in 1987. He has performed in concerts with Arlo Guthrie, The Byrds, Stevie Wonder, John Sebastian, Country Joe McDonald, Linda Ronstadt, Richie Havens, David Crosby and a a host of others.

Jim began his heavily textured watercolor and acrylic paintings  when a debilitating pesticide exposure, exacerbated his existing Agent Orange illnesses, and left him unable to play his guitars for three years. Painting became the bridge to his slow recovery.

Just like his songs, Jim’s paintings are personal, peaceful and sometimes political. Combat Veterans of all eras, will tell you that the savage nature of War produces tremendous stressors, but along with that Wachtendonk believes, comes strength and courage as well.

His contemporary paintings and music, reflect one man’s journey through a minefield of discovery. His representations of Nature, his guitar art, and his original music, portray a powerful connection with the Veteran’s experience, and can be found in his body of work.
